WE CAME ACROSS THIS CLASSIC THEHESH.COM MONTAGE FROM A SESSION 2 YEARS AGO (AKA ONE MONTH PRIOR TO ALL K-FEDZ ANKLE INJURIES) THAT FEATURED NOT ONLY NICK MERTES BUT MINNEAPOLIS’ NEWEST SKATE REVIEW COLUMNIST, WYLIE TUETING AS WELL. WE HAD TO ASK WYLIE WHAT HIS THOUGHTS ON THE EDIT WERE AND THIS IS WHAT HE HAD TO SAY:
What’s there to say, really, about a Hesh montage that is as pleasant, self-indulgent, yet standard as this one? Well, for one thing, I’m in it, which doesn’t come standard, much like my nollie fs-big-spin doesn’t. For another thing, Nick Mertes is in it, a young man who matured faster than most of us by fleeing Minnesota faster than most of us, so that he could forge a new life for himself in Utah . . . or something like that. (Nick has a slight but endearing lisp, and he was the the first person who I heard criticize Since Day One; I always liked him for those reasons.) For a third thing, here Kevin lands tricks with poise that you’ve probably already seen him land before, a fact which then begs the question: should those tricks even impress me? And the answer is a definitive “yes,” since they’re further proof that Kevin may soon be as good at skating as he was in 2006. (That’s called retroactive ambition.). And for a final thing, while Aaron Fryman has a featured heeflip that appears natural if nothing else, what is not-so-natural is the choice of the rap song, since the song was carefully chosen by Kevin, in order to infuse the skating with a festive, spontaneous quality, i.e., what skating to rap music should be all about. The end.
THERE YOU HAVE IT, ANOTHER EPIC REVIEW FROM WYLIE. THANKS FOR HOOKING IT UP, WE ALL ARE ANTICIPATING THAT NEW VIDEO PART….
